Happy Holidays! After about two weeks of rehearsal and a great couple days of tech, A Christmas Carol has opened here at Northern Stage. Vermont is an ideal place to spend the holiday season, and the cherry on top is, of course, spending it with my fantastic fiancée, Meredith.
Here is a great review of Northern Stage's A Christmas Carol.

"The three ghosts were given real character by Susann Fletcher, Kurt Zischke, and Pedar Benson Bate."

With a fantastic run in Boise and an equally enjoyable time in Cleveland, The Merry Wives of Windsor is no more. Sixteen performances in each city, each one was more joyful than the last. Tomorrow starts the final week of performances for Great Lakes Theater's Les Misérables. What an incredible ride it has been; I am sad to see both of these shows go, but on to the next!

So pleased and excited to say that my fiancée Meredith and I are headed to Vermont for November and December! We have both been offered roles in A Christmas Carol at Northern Stage in White River Junction, VT. We have not worked together in over year, so this is super exciting for the both of us! So happy happy!

A very sweet letter to the editor of The Plain Dealer, the newspaper in Cleveland, OH, was published just a day ago and had some nice things to say about the production of Les Misérables that is soon opening at Hanna Theatre in PlayhouseSquare.

"Pedar Benson Bate and Kyle Jean Baptiste will command your attention with their jaw-dropping, expressive vocal performances. Every company member brings something special to this memorable production."

Well, unbelievably and certainly sadly, my time at Idaho Shakespeare Festival has come to an end. I cannot say enough good things about that space and place. Boise is a lovely city and it is just astounding the amount of support that ISF has. It was so nice getting noticed in the grocery or out to eat; everyone always had something kind to say about the shows. My favorite story on that subject: my amazingly supportive Aunt Rita -- and her friend Mary K -- came to visit me in Boise and see both the shows. We were out to eat at FORK, a great place that serves organic and locally-sourced foods, and a patron on his way out unwarranted just came up to me and said, "Hey man, you killed it in Les Misérables when I saw it. Great job!" I do hope it is in my future for my return; it is a very nice place to spend the summer.

Last night during the curtain speech, Mark Hoffland -- Idaho Shakespeare Festival's managing director -- announced that Les Misérables is the best-sellingest production in ISF's 38 year history. I am so pleased to be with such a lovely company and a fantastically superb show. It is very affirming to know that the story we are telling is affecting and reaching so many people. One week more! and then on to Great Lakes Theater!

Today, I am excited to say, I will be playing the role of "Edward Ferrars" in the reading of a new adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, by Joe Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan. The Joe Handreddy-directed reading will take place at Cinder Winery this evening. This event was one of the neat items auctioned off at the annual Idaho Shakespeare Festival Gala. I am super pumped!

The Idaho Statesman gave a wonderful review of The Merry Wives of Windsor:

"The main subplot is which of three suitors will marry Anne Page (the lovely Clare Howes Eisentrout): Mr. Slender (Pedar Benson Bate), who is sweetly inept at courting; Dr. Caius (Tom Ford with an outrageously funny French accent); and Mr. Fenton (the dynamic Sam Wolf)."

Wow! What a summer! Boise, ID is such a nice city to spend the warmer months. Boise has so many things to do -- a fantastic farmer's market; you can float the Boise River; many great restaurants; you can hike the foothills -- and such a walkable downtown. At Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Les Misérables has been running since July 4th, to great audiences and rave reviews. Here is a link to the review from The Idaho Statesman:

"Pedar Benson Bate was a delightful mix of awkward giddiness and earnest intensity as the ultra-romantic Marius."
The Merry Wives of Windsor opened last night, August 2nd, to a great audience. This is my first Shakespeare and my first experience with shows running in rep. I am so delighted to share both shows with Idaho and Cleveland. :)

I am pleased to announce that I have officially accepted the role of Marius in Les Misérables, and the role of Slender in The Merry Wives of Windsor at Idaho Shakespeare Festival in Boise, ID and Great Lakes Theater in Cleveland, OH. So excited to start this adventure!
